Danny’s Story
Danny caught his passion for fishing over 24 years ago. His first fishing experience was off a pier in the river Thames, catching Eels and Flounders. Something about the excitement of not knowing what’s on the other end of that reel was extremely luring to 12-year-old Danny.
Fishing became a staple event for the weekends. Travelling the River Cray, which had a great mix of species. Roach, Perch, and Dace were all common here. Looking back Danny has had many fond memories from his early days of fishing.
Danny’s first encounter with a carp wouldn’t be until 3 years later when he was 15, after being taken to Shoreham Woods by his Dad and Uncle. After catching silver fish most of the day, Danny’s Uncle caught a carp. This was a mind-blowing moment for Danny, he’s been catching small fish all day and just saw what appeared to have been a monster size fish, bigger than anything he has seen before. He knew from that point he had to catch a carp.
“I had been catching these small fishes all day, then my uncle catches this massive carp! It probably wasn’t even that big, but at the time it was the biggest I had seen”

From that point on Danny’s goal was to fish every lake with carp in it, grabbing any day ticket he could grab hold on. However, this was sporadic. At this point in his life, Danny started to have children, a family, and work. This means, unlike when he was 15, he now had to balance his love for carp angling, with the responsibilities of being a working family man.
It’s not easy, and Danny does spend a lot of time working and daydreaming of his next time at the bank. This however isn’t just a story shared by Danny, this is most carp anglers. This is why this blog was started, to give the perspective of the working class carp angler, the average carp angler.
